Profile:
Kooper Kain is a group of seasoned pros with a common desire to create the most impactful music possible. Culling together various musical styles, they've managed to produce a genuinely unique blend of the dark and the melodically uplifting - while still maintaining subtle elements of the more traditional and familiar. Deep, driving drums, swirling electronics and heavy guitars all meld to create a solid platform for the soaring, Bowie-esque vocal style of Kooper Kain. Each member brings his own physical as well as musical flair to both the recordings and the spectacular live performances for which the band is fast gaining recognition. Kooper Kain's ultimate goal: Leave people feeling thoroughly entertained... and wanting more. Reviews: "Kooper Kain can best be described as a Dark Rock come AOR band, sounding as if David Bowie was singing for U2, this is a professional release, and is very listenable. Guitar based, thoughtful and dark rock is the order of the day here. It’s inoffensive, very slick, and very well engineered. These boys know their stuff. There are 18 tracks on here, and believe it or not, they all sound different. This is a rare feat for any band, but KK have managed to balance the album and track order in such a way that you can put it on and forget about it… just let the music wash over you. Not once have I wanted to skip onto the next track, I’ve been happy to follow the path of the music, leading me on from one track to the next without any problems. While this is a guitar based album, the guitars do not take centre stage. They almost sit on the sidelines – always there, but not in your face. This helps to build and craft the sound for each track. Nice!..." -- Hard Wired Magazine (UK), July 2004 "Turning cities to salt MIGHT be a reference to a "communist blacklisted" movie that was made in 1964 (if so it's a pretty obscure reference.) Kooper Kain is one of the very few self-released albums that sound as polished (if not more) than the "giant" record label released. Kooper has a really riveting voice that reminds me of Gary Numan and at times David Bowie. This album consistently sounds like "Outside" era Bowie. I've yet to see Kooper Kain live to review whether or not they have that Bowie charisma. I could listen to Sentence Now over and over again and never tire from the atmosphere that Kooper and his clan whirl into a mesmerizing sense of foreboding and decay. Both of the bonus tracks sound very unlike the rest of the album, as the first one sounds like Lustmord and the second one possibly would be better suited for a retelling of a silent film era movie. I really enjoy this album and hope that djs around the world will give this self-released disc a spin or two before they make any snap decisions about its merits." -- GothicRevue.com, August 2004 "KOOPER KAIN - "Turning Cities to Salt." A massive eighteen tracks. Never heard anything like this Canadian offering before - massive drums, lots of reverbie vocals, kind of rock/metal but with minimal guitar and lots of keys...In Excess meets U2 at Donnington?ng track "Icy Stars" sets the style, with its grandeur and super clean production. "All that's needed" pounds slowly, echoing out across vast planes into a never ending wilderness...er, or something. "Flicker, flicker and out" belongs on a Numan Cd. "Tonal" beat boxes along, in it's own bleak soundscape. Do we like 'em? You bet! But you gotta hear this for your selves..." -- Neon Productions - U.K., August 2004
